The Wanted were particularly keen to emphasise the fact they had a number two hit with their debut US single “Glad You Came”, whilst 1D only managed number four with “WMYB”.
However 1D hit the top spot straight away with the release of “Up All Night”, but TW have only managed to reach number seven with their self-titled effort released last week.
We say “only”, but really the efforts of both British bands need to be applauded, not only for their record-breaking Blighty efforts – but also for them putting boybands firmly back on the scene.
Max George had some harsh words to say about One Direction earlier this year, but it seems they’re all best buddies now – exchanging text messages as they met recently at a US studio.

Elsewhere, another British boyband, JLS, want to experience the same sort of fame across the pond.
Signed to the same management team as 1D, Modest Management, JLS are said to be worried by the popularity of the newcomes in America.
Speaking with The Sun, a source said:
“The lads have no issue at all with the One Direction boys. They just wish they had the same backing when they were ready to crack America. They have a lot of tough calls to make over the next few months and after this album campaign.”
Before One Direction appeared on the scene, JLS were the biggest boyband in the UK, emerging from the 2008 series of X Factor and ultimately finishing runner-up behind Alexandra Burke.
Are you fans of JLS? Do you think they could crack America?
