One Direction are amongst a number of high profile acts who have thrown their weight behind Greenpeace’s ‘Save The Arctic’ campaign.

The campaign aims to ban oil drilling in the arctic as well as unsustainable fishing, and wants to turn the North Pole into a global sanctuary.

As well as 1D, other artists, actors and groups that have signed the act include Paul McCartney, Alexandra Burke, Edward, Norton, Jude Law, Thom York, Rita Ora and Dev Patel as well as many others.

The arctic scroll was announced at the Rio Earth summit, and comes as a response to what Greenpeace say is an “epic failure” – in response to the Rio+20 summit.

You can read more about the campaign at

The site talks about the melting arctic being under threat from oil drilling, industrial fishing and conflict. Once the site reaches 1 million signatures Greenpeace say they will plant your name and a flag for the future of the ocean at the top of the world.

Well worth signing up for, so Directioners, please give your backing to the campaign.

Let’s help them get a million signatures – and probably more!
