The boys of One Direction marked their first appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards with a staggering THREE MOONMEN!
They took home the awards for ‘Best New Artist’, ‘Best Pop Video’, and ‘Most Share-Worthy Video’.
They’d been neck-and-neck all wee with Justin Bieber for the share-worthy video award, but had pulled away in the last few days, ending up more than a million tweets ahead.
Being presented with their Best Pop Video award from the gorgeous Katy Perry – as well as kiss – Niall said:
“Wow, thank you very much Katy. Thanks for the kiss. Thank you so much. We’ve grown up watching this show. And to even be here is an honour and to collect one of these is absolutely incredible.”
“Straightaway we would like to thank the most important people: our fans who have followed us through our two year rollercoaster journey and have helped us win this award for Best Pop Video. So thank you. This one’s for you guys.”
1D were the biggest winner on the night, taking home the most awards, and beating big acts such as Rihanna, Justin Bieber and The Wanted.
Liam Payne said:
“I just want to say we’ve had this award for two seconds and already we broke it so there’s a good start. It’s amazing to be here. I also want to say a massive thank you to our team backstage.”
1D performed their second US single ‘One Thing’, much to the delight of bored Directioners worldwide who are a bit sick of hearing ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ all the time
Talking back-stage after the event, Harry Styles said:
“This has been unbelievable. This was our favourite performance we’ve ever done.”
The screams heard from the fans when One Direction were up on stage were quite frankly deafening, and the boys owned the stage.
Well done 1D!
