Spice Girls Warn One Direction

Spice Girl Mel C has warned the One Direction boys to ‘enjoy it while it lasts’

She reckons that they should enjoy their five minutes of US fame while they can, because it could so quickly be over.

Mel C compares it to her own success in the nineties:

‘They seem to be breaking America, which we were lucky enough to do. My advice would be just enjoy it, because so often with success like that, it’s over so quickly,’ the 38-year-old told Heat.

The Spice girl continued,

‘Really enjoy every minute of it. Try and take it all in, because it’s crazy.’

Sporty spice then goes on to say ‘With pop bands, [fame] is often so short-lived that you have to take every opportunity that you can, and it is hard.’

So what do we reckon, how long have One Direction got left?

    Okay from what I have read I think she is saying that they r not gonna be as huge anymore :( . With all due respect to her, they will still be bigger then the spice girls ever were. Not trying to disrespect, but our boys are just… Too amazayn for that ( :D ).

    I think that it’s difficult to remain as successfull as they have for a very long time. But I hope that they beat the odds!

      If the fans stick with them, they could last a long time indeed… But the teen/tween market is unstable.

      Let’s hope that the fans will be there instead of moving on to the next big thing (whether the upcoming boyband, or whoever else). I have always thought that you can like many things at the same time, and enjoy new things without casting old ones away.

      What I’m tired of is people not aknowledging their current success (like “so they sold many albums, it’s still less than 10 years ago / they didn’t make such a big splash in the single section”…). It is amazing!

        Exactly! Like, my parents always made me listen to the music they had listened too along time ago, and I wanna do the same with my kids! 1D is not just something you can completley drop and forget about and they definitley dont deserve to be forgotten <3

    Of course thats not true, they are gonna last forever in our heart, they are just amazing and we love them so much, so I dont think that they are going to be famous for a moment and thats it, noo, they arent just a boy band, they are ONE DIRECTION the band that we directioners love

      Well they were big in the 90s (I know that’s like the Middle Ages ;) and they were popular for a few years and not all bands/artists are short lived (Owl city for example… :) but I don’t think that popularity is the biggest issue…. It is them fighting and breaking up! (Just like the Beatles…) If they stay together forever then I’m sure they’ll be ok :D and if not I’m sure some of them will go on to have very successful solo careers :)

      Listen to yourself. “Stupid spice girls no one listen to your junk anymore”. In 20 years, what if people were saying that to One Direction? And for the record, the Spice Girls made it way bigger than One Direction did. Andhh them “taking 20 years” is called having a career. In my opinion, that’s better than only being together for about 4 years. A longer career means you have the chance to experiment and have dynamics in your music. The Beatles were together for about 7 years and literally changed the world. HOWEVER, their music changed with each album, each of which was a masterpiece. I don’t really see 1D changing up their music and trying new things, so I don’t know if they’ll last. They’ve got great voices, but that’s not enough to be successful globally over a great span of time. Sorry. I respect your opinion and understand that 1D means a lot, but I don’t want to see you all disappointed when it ends. Be happy! Love 1D but make room for other things in your life too. :)

        Ok u have a point there BUT people say that stuff about one direction even now and days. People say the wont last and other stuff so the thing about the spice girls they lasted a long time but … do u still hear them on the radio tv commercials etc NO.

          Thank you for being respectful :) That really does mean a lot. I can sort of understand what you are saying, but at the same time, what I’m trying to say is that the Spice Girls had their time in the spotlight and had great careers, and One Direction are having their time in the spotlight and have great careers. The Spice Girls are still loved (perhaps underground, nut make no mistake, they still have a huge fanbase) and One Direction will most likely be loved after their careers by their faithful fans. However, the problem with the media today is that they continually attempt to manufacture the “next big thing”, more so than it was during the old days. Because so many boy bands are being produced, more likely now than a decade ago, it is true that many boy bandave faded. Therefore, there is reason to believe that One Direction MAY not last a long time. The Spice Girls never made any statement doubting 1D’s talent, they simply are expressing that because of the way pop culture works, 1D mmay not last for a really long time. Nevertheless, I am sure that One Direction, no matter how short-lived they are, will create lots more records for their fans to enjoy, and they HAVE made enormous progress. That’s something to be proud of! I’m just saying that The Spice Girls do have a point, and know what they’re talking about, as they’ve been in the music industry for so long.

    They actually have a point though, remember Justin Bieber? He was just like 1D for us then, same thing with the Jonas Brothers and Jesse McCarntey!! They’re going to grow up, but 1D is going to be music history and remembered forever. Next year, there’s probably going to be a new boy-band or guy singer (not as good as One Direction), but that person would be in…But us TRUE directioners are going to grow with 1D. Even when I’m 30 I’ll still be wearing my ‘Future Mrs. Styles’ T-shirt!!!!

          JB is facing the difficult issue of going from teen idol to serious R’nB (?) star. The teen idols usually disapear when they grow up, so it’s really tough to manage what he is attempting.

          1D were lucky enough to start at 17-19 instead of 14. Their fanbase can be potencially slightly older, and there is no awkward transition. But it’s still mainly a teen fanbase, so quite unstable because teenagers sometimes move on quickly.

      The spice girls were huge, people here are too young to know, but they really were.
      The fact that it only lasted for a few years, and that now, people barely think about them is significant enough tbh. At the very least, they are remembered along with Nsinc and Back street boys… Others were really forgotten!

      I wish the best to 1D, and I hope that they will be as successfull as possible. I hope that the fans won’t desert them too fast, and that they will remember them fondly in the future. People should not be ashamed of what they loved in the past, and should even be able to go on loving it IMO.
